Interchurch Commission on Genetic Engineering (Aotearoa New Zealand)

The key task of the Interchurch Commission on Genetic Engineering was to prepare a credible submission to the Royal Commission on Genetic Modification from an ethical, spiritual and theological standpoint. The Interchurch Commission applied for and was granted interested person status by the Royal Commission based on its potential to offer a distinctive contribution in these areas.

The Commission encouraged debate and informed discussion within the churches through the provision of high quality educational resources. It utilised the considerable relevant expertise of church members by setting up regional work-groups. The Commission had members from the Anglican, Methodist and Presbyterian Churches.
